Now Israel’s far-right finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, has admitted exactly what the purpose of this plan is.
The Israeli newspaper Times of Israel reported that Smotrich told a group of West Bank settlers last Thursday that “Gaza will be totally destroyed” and “The population of Gaza will be concentrated from the Morag Corridor southwards,” saying “the rest of the Strip will be empty.”
He went on to say “The Gazan citizens will be concentrated in the south. They will be totally despairing, understanding that there is no hope and nothing to look for in Gaza, and will be looking for relocation to begin a new life in other places.”
He also stated that the Netanyahu regime will annex the West Bank next. The paper reported, “Asked about steps to annex the West Bank, the finance minister says, “It will happen this term. It is one of our most important challenges. We are at a historic opportunity.”

The administration of US President Donald Trump is working on a plan to permanently relocate up to 1 million Palestinians from Gaza to Libya, NBC has reported, citing informed sources. The White House has denied the claim.
Since taking office in January, Trump has repeatedly said that the US is prepared to take control of Gaza and transform it into a resort on the Mediterranean Sea. The idea has faced strong opposition from other nations in the region, who argue that such plans violate international law, threaten regional stability, and undermine the rights of Palestinians to remain on their ancestral lands.
The plan to relocate around a half of Gaza’s population to Libya is under “serious” consideration in the White House, the broadcaster claimed in an article on Friday.
According to the sources, in exchange for Libya accepting the Palestinians, the Trump administration could be ready to unfreeze some $30 billion in funds belonging to the North African state that were blocked a decade ago.
The NBC report said that Washington had already discussed the idea with the Libyan leadership, although it did not specify which of the country’s rivaling governments it was.
Libya remains in turmoil since a NATO-backed uprising ousted its long-time leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. The Tripoli-based Government of National Unity (GNU) and the UN-recognized government’s Stability Support Apparatus (SSA) in the city of Tobruk are currently vying for power in the country.
The head of the head of SSA government, Abdulghani al-Kikli, also known as Ghaniwa, was assassinated this past Monday, which led to clashes in Tripoli. The US State Department advises American citizens against traveling to Libya “due to crime, terrorism, unexploded landmines, civil unrest, kidnapping, and armed conflict.”
Israel is being informed about the discussion between the US and Libya, the sources said.
No final agreement on moving Palestinians has been reached, according to NBC, which added that details about when or how the plan could be implemented remain “murky.”
A Trump administration spokesman has said that the report by NBC was “untrue.” The spokesman stressed that the “situation on the ground [in Libya] is untenable for such a plan. Such a plan was not discussed and makes no sense.”

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has announced a new bombing campaign in Gaza aimed at defeating Hamas. The offensive comes after a ceasefire brokered by the US, Egypt, and Qatar expired in March.
“Over the past day, the IDF launched extensive attacks and mobilized forces to seize strategic areas in the Gaza Strip, as part of the opening moves of Operation Gideon’s Chariots and the expansion of the campaign in Gaza,” the military said in a statement on Friday evening.
The IDF reiterated its goals of securing the release of the remaining hostages and achieving “the defeat of Hamas.”
“IDF troops in the Southern Command will continue to operate to protect Israeli citizens and realize the goals of the war,” the Israeli army added.
According to the Times of Israel, the IDF aims to “conquer” Gaza, relocate the Palestinian population to the southern part of the enclave, and prevent “terror groups” from seizing humanitarian aid.
Al Jazeera reports that at least 115 Palestinians have been killed since dawn on Friday.
The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas broke down in March after the sides failed to agree on implementing the second phase of the truce.
Israel declared war on Hamas following a surprise attack by Palestinian militants on October 7, 2023, which killed around 1,200 people and resulted in over 200 hostages being taken. More than 53,000 Palestinians have been killed since the conflict began, and human rights organizations have accused Israel of genocide.

Israel should not think that the suffering of Jews during World War II gives it free rein in foreign policy, particularly when it comes to the hostilities in Gaza, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.
Speaking at a press conference on the results of Moscow’s diplomacy in 2023 on Thursday, Lavrov reiterated his support for the creation of a Palestinian state. The decades-long failure to do this is one of the key reasons for the current instability in the Middle East and tensions between Palestinians and Israelis, he added.
The foreign minister noted that Russia had immediately condemned the attack on Israel by Hamas on October 7. However, after the hostilities began, some Israeli officials went so far as to call the residents of Gaza “animals” without facing any backlash from the West, he added.
Lavrov added that the Soviet people had suffered no less as they were exterminated in the same Nazi concentration camps as the Jews, with both people dying from starvation side-by-side in besieged Leningrad.
“According to this logic, we can do whatever we want. That won’t work if we want to systematically uphold international law,” he added.
Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, with the ensuing fighting killing more than 1,200 Israelis and 24,000 Palestinians. Since then, Israel started a ground operation in the Palestinian enclave, which has caused unprecedented destruction. It has vowed not to stop until Hamas is completely defeated and Palestinian society “deradicalized.”
Russia has repeatedly called on the two sides to agree to a ceasefire while urging Israel not to forget the laws of war.
The Holocaust claimed the lives of around six million Jews in Europe. Meanwhile, the Soviet Union lost some 27 million people during the war, including many Jews, with two-thirds of those losses among the civilian population.

Germany is rethinking its military and trade ties with Israel, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday. The “surprising” pivot from one of the Jewish state’s staunchest supporters comes amid a worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and growing frustration in Berlin over Israel’s actions.
“German anger” rose in mid-May as Israel intensified its campaign against Hamas while continuing to block humanitarian aid, according to information obtained by Bloomberg.
Germany has adhered to a long-standing policy that protecting Israel is a post-Holocaust obligation. It has also been Israel’s largest European arms supplier and one of its top trade partners.
In Germany’s first such public comments since the war began 20 months ago, Chancellor Friedrich Merz said last week that the humanitarian situation could “no longer be justified by a fight against Hamas terrorism.”
During a phone call with Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday, Merz urged the Israeli prime minister to allow “sufficient humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip immediately.”
“This is a real marker of how things have moved,” Julien Barnes-Dacey of the European Council on Foreign Relations told Bloomberg. “It’s simply become impossible for most European governments to continue supporting Israel’s war despite strong ongoing commitments to Israel’s security.”
Israel has long faced accusations of war crimes for obstructing humanitarian aid to Gaza, including a total blockade imposed after October 7, 2023, and repeated restrictions on food, fuel, and medicine entering the besieged enclave. While the Israeli government argues such measures are necessary to prevent supplies from reaching Hamas, critics say the impact on civilians is catastrophic.
Berlin’s shift mirrors wider discontent across Europe. The UK, France, and the Netherlands are also weighing trade and arms restrictions on Israel. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said in May there is “a strong majority” in favor of reviewing the EU-Israel trade agreement. The EU is Israel’s largest trading partner, with $47 billion in goods exchanged last year, according to IMF data.
Last week, Israel launched a new aid distribution system through the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a US- and Israeli-backed initiative. However, the effort has already drawn criticism, as multiple incidents have occurred where Palestinians seeking aid were killed. On Tuesday, at least 27 people died near a distribution site in Rafah, according to Palestinian health officials and witnesses. The Israeli military said troops fired on individuals who had strayed from designated routes and posed a potential threat.
Israel maintains that its military strategy is necessary to defeat Hamas and secure the release of the remaining hostages who had been taken during the October 7 attack, which killed 1,200 people. The Hamas-run health ministry reports over 54,000 Palestinians have been killed since the war began.

The Israeli government has approved a plan for the complete military occupation of Gaza and the forced relocation of its Palestinian inhabitants to the southern part of the territory, multiple news outlets have reported citing unnamed officials.
According to officials quoted by the AP, the new plan is meant to help Israel achieve its war aims of defeating Hamas and freeing the hostages held in Gaza. Israel says the militant group is holding 59 captives, although about 35 are believed to be dead.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet voted unanimously in favor of the strategy during a meeting on Monday morning, two sources told the media. Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces Eyal Zamir has also announced the mobilization of tens of thousands of additional reservists.
“The plan will include, among other things, the conquest of the Gaza Strip and the holding of the territories, moving the Gaza population south for their protection,” an Israeli official stated, as quoted by Agence France Presse.
The move likely will lead to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, which could exacerbate an already dire humanitarian crisis, the AP reports.
Zamir announced the mobilization on Sunday, emphasizing that more troops were necessary to “increase pressure” on Hamas. The elimination of the militant group is the declared aim of the Israeli offensive, in retaliation for a Hamas-led incursion into Israel in October 2023.
The attack resulted in approximately 1,200 fatalities in Israel and the abduction of dozens of hostages. Israeli bombardments have claimed over 50,000 lives in Gaza, predominantly civilians.
Israel has faced accusations of indiscriminate bombings, deliberate destruction of civilian infrastructure, and obstruction of humanitarian aid. The humanitarian situation has deteriorated sharply due to an Israeli-imposed blockade, leading to severe shortages of food, medical supplies, and other essential resources. International organizations have expressed grave concern over the crisis and its impact on the civilian population.
In February, US President Donald Trump advocated the “voluntary” relocation of Palestinians from Gaza to countries such as Jordan and Egypt, saying that it would allow the enclave to be transformed into a resort zone.
While many countries have condemned Trump’s proposal, Netanyahu called it a “remarkable idea” that should be “pursued.”
