'Our worst ally': Top Pentagon official sacked for criticizing US support to Israel
The military official said US support for Israel has only achieved 'the enmity of millions of people' and stressed Washington 'has not been an honest broker'

US Colonel Nathan McCormack, the head of the Levant and Egypt branch at the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s J5 planning directorate, was removed from his position this week after he criticized Washington's unwavering support for Israel on social media.
“Our worst ‘ally.’ We get literally nothing out of the ‘partnership’ other than the enmity of millions of people in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia," McCormack said in one of several posts discovered by the Jewish News Syndicate (JNS) on a semi-anonymous X account allegedly linked to him.
“The US has not been an honest broker. We have overwhelmingly enabled Israel’s bad behavior,” he adds.
In another post, the senior military official calls Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his coalition government “Judeo-supremacist cronies” who are "determined to prolong the conflict for their own goals: either to remain in power or to annex the land.”
“Israel’s actions over decades have prompted the accusations of ethnic cleansing and genocide,” another post reads.
He also charged western states of going “to great lengths to avoid criticism of Israel, much out of Holocaust guilt,” and, since June 2024, referred to Israel as a ”death cult.”
In response to the JNS report, an unnamed Pentagon official confirmed McCormack “will no longer be on the joint staff while the matter is being investigated,” adding that the Defense Department is assigning an investigating officer to examine the content and its implications.
“The individual is being returned to his service while the matter is being investigated,” the US official added.
The JNS revelations coincided with a new poll conducted by YouGov and The Economist, which shows that 60 percent of US adults oppose Washington's involvement in Israel's war against Iran.
Among those who voted for Trump in the 2024 election, 53 percent say the US should stay out of the war, 19 percent support involvement, and 28 percent remain unsure.

A senior officer at the Pentagon has come under scrutiny over a series of social media posts sharply critical of Israel, its leadership, and US foreign policy in the region.
Colonel Nathan McCormack, who leads the Levant and Egypt branch at the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s J5 planning directorate, has used a semi-anonymous account to post numerous comments targeting Israeli actions and US support.
The posts, reportedly written since the 7 October 2023, have sparked outrage among pro-Israel circles in Washington. The story was first reported by the Jewish News Syndicate.
Here’s what he said:
“Netanyahu and his Judeo-supremacist cronies are determined to prolong the conflict for their own goals: either to remain in power or to annex the land.”
“Israel’s actions over decades have prompted the accusations of ethnic cleansing and genocide.”
“The Western states go to great lengths to avoid criticism of Israel, much out of Holocaust guilt.”
“Our worst ‘ally.’ We get literally nothing out of the ‘partnership’ other than the enmity of millions of people in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.”
“The US has not been an honest broker. We have overwhelmingly enabled Israel’s bad behavior.”
Responding to the idea of relocating Gaza’s population, McCormack wrote that Israel wants “to expel them and cleanse ‘Eretz Israel’ (Greater Israel) of ethnic Palestinians.”
Since June 2024 he also called Israel a “death cult”
McCormack has held his current Pentagon post since June 2024, according to his LinkedIn profile. Shortly after the report was published the Pentagon told Jewish News Syndicate it is “aware of the situation” and “looking into the matter”.

Trump says Israel is winning: LIVE UPDATES
21:22 GMT
When asked to clarify whether a decision on US strikes on Iran could come sooner than the “two weeks” he previously mentioned, President Trump said, “We’re going to see what that period of time is.”
“I’m giving them a period of time. And I would say two weeks would be the maximum,” he told journalists.
Trump declined to answer a question about whether he believes an aerial campaign would be “enough” to “win” in Iran without deploying ground troops.
“Well, I’m not going to talk about ground forces. The last thing you want to do is ground forces,” the US commander-in-chief replied.

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard “is wrong” on Iran, President Trump has stated.
When asked to comment on his intelligence community’s assessment that there is no evidence Tehran is close to building a nuclear weapon, the US president replied, “Well then, my intelligence community is wrong.” He then asked the reporter who had made that assessment. When informed it was Gabbard, Trump responded, “She’s wrong.”

Trump has said it will be difficult for him to request that Israel stop its strikes on Iran.
“I think it’s very hard to make that request right now if somebody is winning. It’s a little bit harder to do than if somebody is losing,” the US president told journalists. “But we’re ready, willing and able. And we’ve been speaking to Iran and we’ll see what happens,” he added.

‘Says one thing, does another’: What’s Trump’s endgame in Iran?
https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/6/19/says-one-thing-does-another-whats-trumps-endgame-in-iran
Washington, DC – Over the past week, United States President Donald Trump has been issuing statements on Iran that appear to be contradictory.
He has called for ending the war and hinted at peace coming “soon”, only to then suggest that assassinating Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei could be an option for the US along with joining Israel’s bombing campaign.
In the latest turn, the White House said on Thursday that Trump will make a decision on whether to join the war within two weeks.
These changes in the president’s stance have some observers thinking that Trump may not have a clear strategy or endgame; rather he is being dragged to war by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has been seeking US attacks on Iran for decades.
Alternatively, could Trump be using his increasingly bellicose rhetoric against Iran to compel Tehran to agree to entirely give up its nuclear programme?
If so, experts warn that brinkmanship could turn into an all-out war between the US and Iran.
Jamal Abdi, president of the National Iranian American Council, said Trump could be attempting to build leverage with threats to strongarm Iran into accepting his demands of “total surrender”.
“I think he’s trying to present himself as this madman who is unpredictable, and in so doing, he can then insist on this very hard line that Iran has refused to accept for decades of full dismantlement of its enrichment programme,” Abdi told Al Jazeera.
Another possible explanation of Trump’s latest statements, Abdi added, is that he is “being taken for a ride by Bibi Netanyahu to commit the United States to a full-on war with Iran”.
